0219 Torrens Court Residence
...Linear planes juxtapose with geometric forms to articulate space & provide the source for light & ventilation, whilst maintaining privacy to intimate zones
This design concept was developed for very compact block on a sloping site in the beachside suburb of Cottesloe. The clients were keen for the house to have a contemporary expression with clean lines, yet still combine the more natural materials typical of this beach location, hence large areas of tactile limestone walling were created near the entry contrasting with smooth areas of rendered walling, glazing and metal cladding.
The proposed building has a distinctive projecting cubic form which floats above the more lightweight structure below and opens onto a ground level courtyard garden. There is a strong emphasis on passive solar design principles, with strong access to natural northern light and cross-ventilation created through careful orientation and spatial planning.
