To achieve the client's functional and aesthetic brief, the existing single storey brick cottage is retained and original verandah detailing reinstated, with a new two-storey addition to the rear designed as a sympathetic extension to accommodate additional bedrooms upstairs. A modern new single-storey link structure containing the main kitchen, living and dining areas has been designed to bridge from the renovated cottage to a new, more contemporary two-storey gable structure to the rear which houses the garage and studio space. These new spaces are grouped around a new landscaped garden area and pool, maximizing the connection between indoor and outdoor living and achieving excellent solar access, natural ventilation and lighting.
